If you’re “bombing out” on your lifts, maybe Slippery Rock University is just what you need. The University’s Aebersold Student Recreation Center (ARC) will celebrate your raw strength all while empowering you with the technique and dexterity to successfully bench that last rep. An 82,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art recreational facility for students and faculty as well as local community members, the ARC offers the equipment and expertise to drive your lifting game over the edge. With everything from an aquatic center and a climbing wall to a fitness lab and multipurpose gyms, you will leave campus squatting just a little deeper and pushing a little higher.
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift in this order. Singlets are recommended but not required for this event. T-shirts and shorts with no pockets are acceptable. This will be a “raw” competition with no bench shirts allowed. No elbow sleeves or shirt/wrist wraps touching the elbow. Knee sleeves and wrist wraps acceptable (one item per) are permitted for the squat. NO knee wraps for the squat or supportive suit. Knee sleeves are allowed for the deadlift. Belts are allowed for all lifts. Event organizers reserve the right to combine weight/age categories based on athlete registration. Entries close 24 hours prior to the start of the competition.
Bench Press Meet will run concurrently with the full powerlifting Event. Powerlifter bench press will qualify for placing in this event as long as they submit a registration for BOTH the Powerlifting Event AND the Bench Press Event. Alternatively, competitors may compete in Bench Press only.
SCORING: Each competitor is allowed three attempts on each of the squat, bench press, and deadlift. The lifter’s best valid attempt on each lift counts toward the competition total. For each weight class,
the lifter with the highest total wins. If two or more lifters achieve the same total, the lighter lifter ranks above the heavier lifter.
NOTE: This event is limited to 60 participants.
